BTV Spreads Holiday Cheer: Soldiers at Sarstoon Forward Base Receive Christmas Goodies

The Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) stopped by the Belize Defence Force’s Forward Operating Base on the Sarstoon River this week to spread some Christmas cheer to the soldiers stationed there. Members of the BTV, took ham, soft drinks cakes, and other snacks for around 20 soldiers stationed at the base over the holidays. BTV leader Wil Maheia says that the distribution is an annual initiative from the group to show appreciation for the men and women who help to keep the country safe.

Wil Maheia, Belize Territorial Volunteers: “We have done this before and it’s to bring some Christmas cheer to the soldiers at the Forward Operating Base at Sarstoon. As you know Sarstoon is dear to our hearts, the Territorial Volunteers as we like to maintain Belize’s border and Belize’s territorial integrity. Like I said we just want to show appreciation to those soldiers who are out there during the holidays. We took a ham, we took some soft drinks, some juice and we took black cake and white cake provided by teacher Olive and the former High Commissioner Ms.Palma and tamales. So you know an amount of goodies so that the soldiers could feel very welcomed and very remembered during this holiday season. We know that they are in a remote part of the country and we wanted to show appreciation for that.”

Maheia added that the Ministry of National Defence and Border Security has been supportive of the initiative. The BTV’s activity follows a week of Christmas luncheons that the Ministry held for the BDF and Belize Coast Guard last week.
