Burglar Shot by Police During Foiled Belize City Break-In

A foiled burglary turned into a shoot-out between police officers and the culprits, leaving one person injured, over the weekend. At around five o’clock on Saturday morning, police were called out to a burglary in progress at Titanic Restaurant along the Northern Highway in Belize City. Upon arrival, police saw several men, one of whom opened fire while trying to escape. Police Press Officer ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, says police returned fire and injured 27-year-old Kevin Bodden.

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “When police arrived on that scene, four men were seen fleeing. One of these men turned around and opened fire on the police that were pursuing them and in a return of fire from the police, it appeared that one of them was injured. Despite being injured, these men managed to swim across the river and that would put you on Lake Independence side of the river but because of his injury, police caught up with him and he was transported to the KHMH where he remains under police guard at this time.”

Reporter: Have police detained anyone else?

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department:Well I know that they have conducted several searches to try to locate his accomplices but none has been relayed to me at this time whether or not they have, they were fruitful in detaining any of the other three, the other three persons that were out here.”
