The charred remains of a female found at the Belmopan dumpsite on Saturday has been identified. This afternoon, Shirley Mai, the mother of 18 year old Keona Ara, confirmed the identity of her daughter by the tattoos she has on the left arm and back of the neck. Her body was found by the security guard on duty who told Love News that while he was doing his hourly patrol he saw Ara’s body on fire. She was burnt beyond recognition forcing police to release pictures of her tattoos so that someone in the public can identify the body. We also understand that the teenage girl, who is from Blackman Eddy Village, was stabbed multiple times and her throat had been slit. This evening Mai told Love News Correspondent Fem Cruz that she wants justice for her daughter’s death.
“My two daughters, they took one from me and they left me with one. Keona is 18 years old I didn’t even see a grand baby from my daughter. I raised my children poor and hard. I would go to sleep hungry and I would make sure that my daughters ate. I am telling you right now, if they charge him he is going to Hattieville, I work with the system, he will go to Hattieville he will eat and later on down the line another family will be going through the same thing I am going through. I will go sit down at Hattieville for them because they sit down there for enough people. So how about the world turns right now he will get the sense. Them their mothers can still look for them at Hattieville I can’t go look for my daughter she is gone.”
“Tell us when the family knew she went missing.”
“On Saturday Kiona left my house and she worked in Santa Elena at my niece and she told me that she would be going back to work because every weekend she comes to talk to me.”
“At about what time in the morning did she leave?”
“About 10 to 12 because she was still standing near the bump with some friends but I asked a friend of mine and she told me that Kiona was at Stephanie my nieces house but then I don’t have her number. It’s through Kiona’s phone because I have her number so I wasn’t worrying because I thought she was in Cayo at my niece working because she would never lie to me but _______ lured my daughter to her death I am telling you.”
Belmopan police have detained one man in connection with the teenager’s murder.
