It might not come as a surprise but it will definitely be unwelcomed by many. Tonight, we can tell you that bus fares are likely to increase in two weeks. Leaders of the Belize Bus Operators Association (BBOA), this evening met with Transport Minister, Rodwell Ferguson in Belmopan. As we have been reporting, bus operators have been crying that the ever-increasing price of fuel has them operating at a deficit. Across the pumps, regular, premium and diesel fuels are more than thirteen dollars per gallon and bus operators have had it. They threatened the government with a nationwide shutdown if nothing was down. After the meeting, Minister Ferguson told reporters that it is more likely that bus fares will increase by April 15.
President of the Belize Bus Operators’ Association is Thomas Shaw. Shaw told Love News that commuters should not be surprised with the increased.
Another meeting is scheduled for next week.
