Another point brought out by the NTUCB during their meeting with the PM was that of the Senate Inquiry into the Immigration and Nationality Department. According to the PM, Senator Aldo Salazar reportedly stated that the other senators, quote, “abandoned” him during the drafting of the report. As such, he had to compile the draft himself. According to Senator Mark Lizarraga, it is the job of the chairman of PAC to draft the report, and that person is Senator Salazar.
Poor Senator Salazar. Maybe he forgot to read the laws. Maybe he forgot to read the standing orders. The standing orders are very clear that it’s his responsibility and he knew that when he accepted to be the chair of that committee. The standing orders say that the chairman is supposed to, under law, present a draft report. It doesn’t say individual senators, it doesn’t say Senator Lizarraga, it doesn’t say senator Barnett or it doesn’t say Senator Rocke or Senator Elena it says the chairman which is Senator Salazar. He has the authority he has the obligation on the law to provide that first draft. Now when I see that draft if I don’t like it and I can’t convince the majority of members on that committee that yes, you know the draft needs to be changed or for that matter that they draft should be accepted, if we don’t all agree then I as an individual senator I have the right to write what is called a Minority Report. But make we no mince words here the responsibility of that report is Senator Salazar’s.
Senator Salazar reportedly also stated since the departure of Senator Eamon Courtenay, the opposition has not named a replacement for the committee.
