Tonight, a Belize City businessman is lucky to be alive after being stabbed and robbed over the weekend. On Saturday, around 10:30, 34-year-old Deepak Katariya parked his truck near a bar at the corner of Cemetery Road and proceeded to Sky Shop to take an order. When he exited the store and made his way back to his vehicle, two assailants approached him. One of them held the businessman down and the second stabbed Katariya multiple times. The assailants took the businessman’s bag, which contained his phone, calculator, tablet, and an iPad. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero says that quick police response then led to one of the culprits being detained.
ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Upon their arrival they came upon noe Depak Katariya, 34 years businessman, who reported that he was doing business transactions in the area when he was approached by two male persons, one who helped him and the other one proceeded to inflict stab wound to his chest area. Quick police response led to the detention of one person who had a bag. When it was searched it contained the stolen items that belonged to Depak Katariya. Thereafter one other person has been detained and the investigation is going. At the end of the day we’re going to have charges for these persons. The information we gathered is yes they were following him as he did business runs in the city. He is now in a stable condition.”
