Belize Water Services donated a garbage collection truck yesterday to the Punta Gorda Town Council. Paul Mahung reports.
Fern Gutierrez – Mayor, Punta Gorda
“For those of you who know the history of sanitation in the entire country, it has been a very trial time in terms of how we generate waste, how we dispose of waste and the impact it has on our everyday life and in existence on the environment itself. This donation from the Belize Water Services team speaks to the importance of understanding that it is only through unity, and community and cooperative contributions that the councils will become sustainable. The ability to harness a corporate relationship with a company that values its customers and actively identifies ways to improve their everyday lives. The overall goals of this partnership are to improve the garbage disposal and collection services within the municipality, improve the general environment of Punta Gorda Town and surrounding vicinity, promote health and sanitation from an environmental sustainable stand point. This project will directly impact the council through a projected reduction in maintenance and fuel prices.
Other speakers included BWS Chairman Alberto August, Deputy Mayor Ashton McKenzie and Councillor Lucy Cayetano. BWS Public Relation Officer Lisa McFadzean spoke to Love news of the donation.
