The Belize Water Services Limited (BWS) is currently undergoing a water expansion project in Placencia Village, Stann Creek. The project aims to improve the village’s water infrastructure and provide a more reliable water supply to residents and businesses. The expansion includes the construction of a new transmission line extending from Independence Village to Seine Bight, the installation of new water mains up to Maya Beach, and the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure. The PR Manager, Haydon Brown, explains that they are also working to construct a five-hundred-gallon water reservoir to increase water storage capacity in the village.
Haydon Brown, Public Relations Manager, Belize Water Service: “The installation of a new ten inch trans line coming from Independence. That is coupled along with additional storage of an additional 500,000 gallon tank that we’re installing in Seine Bight. So those two are the major works that we’re currently doing and that would take about another year or so before that project is completed. That cost to the company will run something like around $13 million dollars. Additionally the company is also looking to do an additional transmission line from Riversdale and that will also run about $3 million dollars or so. So those are the investments that we’re currently doing. The company has already invested something like over $5 million on remedial works which entail things like installation of pumps and also the facilities to provide us to continue to provide service, generators and other electrical panels so that we’re able to maintain services 24/7 no matter what the circumstances are. So those in a nutshell are the installations and works that will be taking place within the peninsula.”
