BWSL signs CBA

On Monday, the Belize Water Services Limited signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which will benefit approximately three hundred employees.  The CBA seeks to foster efficient, safe and effective working practices between the company and the union. Haydon Brown, the HR/PR Manager told Love news that there were compromises made and the financials posed some challenges.
Haydon Brown – HR/PR Manager at BWSL:“ As it relates to the direct benefits, most times we look at incentives where the inflationary impact has touched on some of the benefits that were already awarded to employees and try to increase those within reasonable measures, those things were done. I believe both sides did their homework in terms of looking at the real expenses and how best the company could have afforded to meet these expenses and so things like our subsistence when employees go out to our branches were touched. There were other direct expenses or direct benefits when it came to allowances for employee time that they put in that were looked at and increased so at most we looked at ways to improve the benefits for time put in by employees. This new CBA, the salary increase was 4% that was applied to staff. “
Brown noted that the CBA was successfully negotiated with the workers union last year, thereafter, a memorandum of understanding was signed on November 1, 2018.  However, the signing of the CBA only took place earlier this week after several corrections were made to the document at the recommendation of  the Ministry of Labour. The CBA is valid for three years which commenced on November 1, 2018.
