Cabinet Approves Key Maritime and Diplomatic Initiatives for Belize’s International Presence

Among the important decisions made on Tuesday, Cabinet endorsed two initiatives aimed at improving the country’s maritime sector and its presence on the international stage. The government approved the designation of San Pedro as a port for enhancing maritime governance, safety, and operational efficiency in San Pedro and its surrounding waters. The decision will enable the establishment of clear port limits, stringent safety and security measures, and the provision of essential port services. Additionally, in a significant step for Belize’s global diplomacy, the Cabinet approved the introduction of a resolution for the National Assembly of Belize to join the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The organization, through parliamentary diplomacy, empowers parliaments and parliamentarians to promote peace, democracy, and sustainable development around the world.
