Cabinet today announced that at the next sitting of the House of Representatives, which is tomorrow, the Government will introduce a bill to amend the Belizean Nationality Act. The amendment to Chapter 161 of the Laws of Belize provides for the legal regime to implement the Government’s Amnesty Program. On the investment front, Cabinet approved a comprehensive National Investment Policy and Strategy to encourage and facilitate private investment in Belize in support of continuing stimulation of economic growth. Pertaining to labour, Ministers considered and approved the adoption of the Belize National Child Labour Policy and Strategy 2022-2025. The policy sets goals to reduce the incidence of child labour in Belize with a goal of eliminating the worst forms of child labour by 2025. This new policy was drafted with broad consultation and in collaboration with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization, and other relevant national stakeholders. Summer internships will be available in the public service. Cabinet announced that some 130 fourth-formers and junior college students will be placed within various government ministries. There will be a cohort that will be doing their internships in July and a second group in August.
