Camalote Man Found Murdered: Family Demands Answers in Grisly Discovery

58-year-old Belhem Guzman was found dead in Camalote Village after being reported missing by his family on Saturday. The body of Guzman was found in a bushy area about 150 feet off the roadside. He was lying in a face up position, wrapped in a white comforter. His hands and feet were tied together with an extension cord, and he was further observed to have a chop wound to the back of his head and a stab wound to the side of his neck. His brother, Telford Guzman, spoke to Love News about the speculation surrounding his brother’s death. 

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: A gruesome murder in Camalote Village has left the community in shock and mourning. On Sunday morning, the decomposing body of 58-year-old Belham Guzman was found in a bushy area off the George Price Highway after he was reported missing. He was discovered lying face up wrapped in a white comforter with his hands and feet bound with an extension cord. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero says he had been chopped to death and dumped at the location. 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Police visit Camalote Village about 150 feet off the highway where they saw the lifeless body of a male person. He was identified as Belham Guzman of the area of Camalote. He had injuries to his body, chop wounds. He was taken where he was pronounced dead on arrival at the medical facility. An investigation is being carried out at this time and we have no suspects at this time.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Guzman was last seen alive on Thursday when he left home. Since then, his family had been working to locate him. His brother, Telford Guzman, says they had initially thought he was injured while walking on the highway. 

Telford Guzman, Brother: “When we don’t see him people see him everyday he walks on the road because he lives in his house by himself. He will make a trip or two trust me.”

Reporter: What does the family believe happened then because it sounds like this was a very well known peron.

Telford Guzman, Brother: “Well we believe that the man got drunk, was straying and the weather and everything we believed that he got hung up somewhere by weakness of being drunk, fell and I don’t know. He doesn’t usually cut off any go to anybody’s house. He just stays on the road.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: His family says Guzman was well known and didn’t have any enemies. So why would someone want him dead? ACP Romero says investigators are working to establish a motive. 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “We do not know at this time. The investigation is ongoing right now.” 

Reporter: No motive for why somebody would want to….

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “No motive at this time no.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: While the police nor Guzman’s family have no clue why he was callously murdered, his brother believes Guzman may have known his killer or killers. 

Telford Guzman, Brother: “I believe it’s somebody from the village here because watch the spot where we found him right  and the person who did it or persons they got help because he wasn’t that light, it wasn’t a light person in weight and where the body was found from the roadside he was in a sheet and it’s not no rich people, it’s poor people it looks like some of the same sheet that they would sleep on because you could see the kind of sheet , like blanket sheet, two different pieces and they had a rope tied, an electrical cord on him. I believe someone was trying to pull while the rest were handling him, his hands were tired behind him. So they restrained him before they really……”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Guzman’s family says that similar to when their loved one was wronged in the past, they will be leaving vengeance to the Lord and justice to the police. 

Telford Guzman, Brother: “He is not somebody that is violent to say he’ll take up challenge because in his life time enough people chanced him in all kinds of way and ever responded to it to say go to the people can cause a big problem right ? But the things that they’d do to him area serious things already and next day he’s ready to talk or drink with them. He was never a violent person to say the person that would respond to anything or have grievances, not as we know.”

The brother believes that Guzman was killed elsewhere and thrown on the roadside as there was not any trace of blood found in the area. Investigation is still ongoing
