Canada pledges millions to help CARICOM fight climate change

Canada has pledged a significant amount of funding to help the Caribbean region tackle the effects of climate change. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is attending the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government in the Bahamas, announced the initiative, which totals 44.8 million dollars.

Prime Minister Trudeau and regional leaders also discussed the situation in Haiti, climate change and climate financing, trade, increased people-to-people contact, and regional security among other issues. Prime Minister Trudeau said Canada is seeking a renewal of a waiver from the World Trade Organisation for goods from the Region to enter Canada duty-free beyond 2023, through the CARIBAN programme.
