She was a Belize City councilor up until March of this year. After she completed her term, she was appointed by the Briceno administration as the new ambassador to Taiwan. Now, Doctor Candice Pitts has officially begun her tenure after presenting her credentials to Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Wu on Tuesday. In their discussions, both the Ambassador and Minister spoke on a wide range of issues of mutual concern. For his part, Minister Wu said that with Doctor Pitts’ appointment, Belize can continue to strengthen ties. In turn, Ambassador Pitts expressed Belize’s appreciation for Taiwan’s support to Belize in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. She also commented that the economic cooperation agreement, signed between the two countries in September last year, will soon take effect. The plan thereafter is to invite Taiwanese investment and trade groups to visit Belize after the pandemic is over. Prior to her diplomatic appointment, Ambassador Pitts was a university lecturer in both in the United States and Belize.
