Many people have had to put their plans for travels and other major events on hold due to COVID-19. The same goes for Commandant of the Belize Coast Guard, Captain Elton Bennett. To gain the rank of Admiral, Captain Bennett is required to travel to the United Kingdom for a one-year program. According to the Captain, those plans have been postponed.

Cpt. Elton Bennett, Commander, Beliz]]]]]st Guard:“I was scheduled to leave in August and that’s to go to the UK. Considering the situation right now with the UK that course is on hold so whenever that happens then I’ll be able to travel and go over seas again.”

Reporter: Who takes over command when you leave?

Cpt. Elton Bennett, Commander, Belize Coast Guard: “My Vice Commandant who is Gregory Soberanis he will act as Commandant for one year.”

Captain Bennett took over the role of Commandant from Admiral John Borland back in November 2019. Prior to that, he had served as Vice Commandant for 10 years.
