A Phillips Bus Line commuter bus was rear-ended by a car last night near the Los Lagos cutoff. The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. as the bus was slowing down to pick up additional passengers who had been flagging it down. Before the driver could safely pull over, the car collided into the rear of the bus. Love News spoke with Ijaman Sosa, a passenger and resident of Burrell Boom Village, who noted that the bus has had mechanical issues in the past, which can be an inconvenience for commuters.
Ijaman Sosa, Resident, Burrell Boom Village: “The bus driver while he was attempting to pull to the side of the road to stop for passengers, a car struck the bus from behind. The bus received minor damages, the car received major damages. Actually there were fluids leaking from the engine and more than likely if the driver tried to start the car it wouldn’t start. But the bus only received minor damages in the back. When the driver struck the bus we all got out to see what was going on but like I said the damages to the bus were minor so he could have just pulled off. A lot of the passengers, from what I saw they were calling other people to come pick them up and stuff but this is a bus for rural so a lot of them depend on this bus to get home in the evening so there’s not really another bus. So whether they liked it or not we had to wait in order to get home. Unfortunately a lot of the seats of these buses are torn and uncomfortable. When it comes to downtime sometimes the buses do breakdown. Yes the driver gets the bus back on the road as so as they can but yes they do break down some times and that is an inconvenience of course especially speaking from the point of someone who leaves work a bit late and is already tired and wants to get home that is indeed an inconvenience.”
