In a landmark moment for international diplomacy, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) officially welcomed the first-ever Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the regional bloc on July 2. Her Excellency Dr. Linda Sobeh Ali presented her credentials to CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett during a virtual accreditation ceremony. Dr. Barnett hailed the occasion as “historic and profoundly symbolic,” underscoring the significance of this diplomatic milestone. The appointment of Ambassador Sobeh Ali marks a new chapter in relations between CARICOM and Palestine, opening avenues for enhanced cooperation and dialogue. During the ceremony, Secretary-General Barnett reiterated CARICOM’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people. “CARICOM remains firm in our conviction that the international community must act with urgency and unity to ensure that the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people are recognized and upheld, including the right to self-determination, citizen security, and human dignity,” Dr. Barnett stated.
