Carnival Leader Targeted at Home

Shots were fired just before seven o’clock last night in the Faber’s Road area. Marina Welcome, who was at home, says that she was just outside turning on her yard lights when a suspicious vehicle parked in front of her residence and opened fire. ACP Hilberto Romero spoke of the incident in today’s press briefing.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Police responded to shots fired at Rio Bravo Crescent Belize City where upon arrival they found Marina Welcome who reported that she was at home when she heard several loud bangs. Upon making checks on her house she found five bullet holes. Information gathered is that she was at home when an SUV pulled up, a male person came out and fired several shots towards her house. We are seeking several suspects for this shooting at this time.”

Welcome, known for her role in the Sunshine Masqueraders, is shaken by the attack. Bullet holes left on her gate and the front wall of her house are visible, a reminder for the house owner. She received threatening calls from private numbers, so she was afraid to do on-camera interviews. She also commented that the police were quick to respond to her emergency call; they were there in under 5 minutes.
