Today the Ministry of Health and Wellness released their three-day report for the weekend. In that release, the ministry notes that there are twenty-eight new cases of COVID-19, along with five new recoveries and zero deaths. These new cases are from a batch of one thousand four hundred fifty-eight tests that were done within the last seventy-two hours. This evening, the Ministry also reports that there are sixty-five active cases of the coronavirus and another eighty-seven samples are under investigation. Of the cases reported this evening, the majority came from the Belize District which comes as no surprise after the Princess Casino was closed due to several members of its staff tested positive for COVID-19. A statement from the Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed that on Saturday, eighty-two of the establishment’s staff were swabbed and twenty-one of them tested positive for COVID-19. Of the positive cases, seventeen are asymptomatic and four are mildly symptomatic and are receiving appropriate treatment. All positive persons are in complete isolation and contact tracing is ongoing. The Princess remains closed until contact tracing and proper sanitization have occurred. This development comes as casinos were allowed to reopen for the first time in fourteen months back in April.
