On Monday, Belize saw its first formal cattle exportation to Guatemala. This practice has been happening for years informally, but adjustments needed to be made after officials in Guatemala stopped the illegal crossings by Belize cattle exporters. With borders closed, the informal practice of exporting the cattle was halted and many farmers grew concerned. The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Godwin Hulse, explained the importance of formalizing this trade.
Twenty seven cattle for fattening were exported during the first formalized trade.
