Residents of Caye Caulker Village continue to rally together to assist victims of last Friday’s tragic incident. While the community remains in sorrow over the death of 18-year-old Alexander Bainton, it remained focused on raising funds to cover the hospital expenses of the other victims. Tonight,we can report that teacher Zane Zuniga has been taken out of the country for further medical treatment. Our newsroom understands that Zuniga received surgery this morning in Guatemala City for the C3 injury in his spine. On Facebook, one of the persons spearheading fundraising efforts wrote, “He’s tired and has a long road of therapy ahead of him. The surgery appears to have gone well.” Zuniga, who was driving the vehicle, sustained severe spinal injuries that had resulted in paralysis. Additionally, 17-year-old Gilbert Teck remains in a coma but is showing signs of improvement. The single-vehicle accident occurred last Friday evening as the teachers and students traveled to Orange Walk Town for a basketball tournament. They were traveling in a Ford 350 van when two tires blew out between miles 40 and 41 on the Philip Goldson Highway.
