Caye Caulker resident says she was assaulted by police on camera

A woman from Caye Caulker Village claims she was assaulted by a police officer while trying to stop the cop from brutalizing a man. Suzanna Blease, says that over the weekend she was at the island’s basketball court when her attention was drawn to a man being pinned to the floor by the police. Blease claims that she began to record the officers, which led to one of them aggressively rushing over to her. The cop then unlawfully took Blease’s cell phone and knocked her to the ground. Blease was able to record the incident on camera and shared the footage with the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams. Yesterday, the top cop encouraged Blease to take up the issue with the BPD’s Professional Standards Branch.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I have seen the video. The young lady had sent the video to me personally and I would encourage her to go to the PSB and make the complaint. We have the video, we can look at it and see where we go with it.”
