The Caye Caulker Village Council and the Caye Caulker Liquor Licensing Board notified the public that starting Sunday, they would be implementing several measures to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19. These measures will see public and special license holders required to shut down operations; all shops and convenience stores will need to close at 9pm sharp while restaurants are encouraged to offer take-out services.  Additionally, all church gatherings are to be suspended and people are encouraged to pray at home and a 10pm curfew will be implemented, and only essential workers will be allowed to traverse the streets. The release also stated effective Monday, only residents of Caye Caulker will be allowed to travel to Caye Caulker. However, the Attorney General’s Ministry issued their own press release  advising the public that only the Government of Belize can restrict the movement of Belizeans within Belize. Unless such restriction is enacted by the Government, municipal bodies should refrain from doing so. Any entity found guilty of doing such will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. It is also not within the purview of any municipality to institute a mandatory curfew. This can only be done by GOB.
