One person has died in a road incident on Friday night in western Belize. It happened on the Bullet Tree Road in the Cayo District just before nine o’clock. Fifty-year-old Leon Small, a resident of Santa Elena, was in his grey Wingle pickup truck heading from San Ignacio Town to Bullet Tree Village when he reportedly heard a loud bang about a half-mile away from the town. When he went to make checks he found a man bleeding from his head. ASP Alejandro Cowo gave the media a preliminary report on the investigation.
Assistant Superintendent, Alejandro Cowo, Belize Police Department: “San Ignacio Police responded to a RTA on the Bullet Tree Road where upon arrival on the right hand side of the road they saw a grey in color Wingle. The Wigle had damages to the front and at the time it was being driven by one Mr.Leon Small of a San Ignacio address. The information that police gathered so far is that Mr.Small was driving from San Ignacio en route to Bullet Tree when he just heard a loud bang. He came out the vehicle and thereafter he made an inspection where about fifty feet away from the vehicle police observed the motionless body of Orlando Samuel Williams with severe injuries to the body. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. So far Mr.Small has been issued with a NIP and he was also charged for failing to provide a specimen.”
Forty-year-old, Orlando Samuel Williams was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. ASP Cowo added that Williams was known to traverse the area frequently. Meanwhile, Small was detained pending an investigation.
