The Belize Tourism Board and the Belize Tourism Industry Association have joined Central American Tourism Integration Secretariat (SICA) on a Central American digital campaign entitled “Central America is yours, enjoy it!” The aim of the campaign is to get those living in Central America to travel to Central American countries more often. Belize and remaining countries in Central America which includes, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica have all joined the campaign. Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yashin Dujon spoke of the campaign and inter regional travel.
“They’ll simultaneously launch to all CICA member states for this marketing campaign. This campaign was put together collaboratively to encourage the regional domestic travel and growth within the sector. It’s important to note that throughout Central America this year that there has been a large growth rate of approximately 4% as the presentation showed but that was a total of 15 million travellers throughout the region. What that means is that 4.5 million of the 15 million people that travelled last year were actually Central Americans. Today’s launch really is focused on highlighting this major campaign and the campaign is really using the target market of Central America to promote the regional travel. The campaign seeks to showcase the uniqueness and authenticity and the value of the product that we the Central American countries have put together.”
The digital campaign will use mediums such as Facebook, twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to advertise each country and what it offers. Karen Pike, Director of Marketing for the Belize Tourism Board spoke about some of the targets that have been set.
“To motivate half a million users through a digital campaign to travel inter regionally within the Central American region. To have an average of five request of packages made through our Central American website. Keep at least 4% of Facebook followers actively engaged and generate a database of at least 5,000 Central American users from the registration on the website. Who are the countries participating in this campaign; Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panamá, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.”
John Burgos, Executive Director of Belize Tourism Industry Association spoke about how figures should grow with the help of the campaign and the private sectors.
According SICA, forty percent of tourists who travel Central America are actually from Central America. You can visit the website www.visitcentroamerica.com to find out more about traveling in the region.
