Chamber of Commerce sets on Constitution Commission; President says they hope to ventilate many issues

The Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) is also among the many organisations that are participating as members of the People’s Constitution Commission. As part of the revisiting of the Constitution, the priorities of the chamber are likely issues relating to equitable taxation, measures to improve the business climate and opportunities to have people gainfully employed. While he did not get into specifics, Chamber President Marcello Blake says that the many issues the business community has will be raised during this process.

There continues to be the call from various organisations to be included on the commission. For example, the Belize Progressive Party says both them and their partner, the Belize People’s Front, should get two seats each just as the PUP and the UDP have. President of the Chamber of Commerce, Marcello Blake supports the idea of having many voices being engaged in this important process, but warned that too many voices may amount to just noise and busywork.
