The Government of Belize’s decision to adjust the mandatory school age from 14 to 16 has been welcomed by the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In a statement on Tuesday, the Chamber said that education remains a key factor in the development of the country’s economy and encourages continuous improvement in the education system. The Chamber’s Manager of Member Relations, Yorshabell Cattouse spoke to Love News.
Cattouse added that this is one meaningful step taken by the government to rid the economy of harmful child labour practices.
The Chamber, for its part, says that this policy can potentially impact the nation positively in areas such as health and crime.
