Charges Pending in Road Traffic Incident Leaving Motorcyclist Critical

Investigators are yet to lay charges in last Thursday’s road traffic incident that left a motorcyclist clinging to life. Around 1 o’clock, 31-year-old Gilbert Stephens Jr was driving toward Lord’s Bank Village, Belize District, when he collided with a Honda Civic car, which was being driven by a female. According to reports, the woman was driving in the opposite direction when she turned left into an establishment near mile nine on the Philip Goldson Highway. Stephens, an airport employee, was reportedly unable to avoid hitting the side of the woman’s car and was flung to the pavement. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Today, we asked Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero for an update on the incident, but he had very little information on the matter.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “That investigation is ongoing at this time. It is still under investigation. That’s all.”

Stephen’s family says the police have provided them with very little information.
