The Christian Workers Union and the Social Security Board are back on good terms after the union forced a coming to the table. Last week, union members launched a “black ribbon” campaign on Facebook to express their anger with the board. The CWU claimed the SSB had violated portions of their collective bargaining agreement and acted in bad faith over several issues. On Friday, the parties met to iron out their concerns and were successful in coming to a compromise. Today, the union’s President, Leonora Flowers, stated that while the meeting was cordial and fruitful, the union will continue to lobby for various benefits under their CBA.
Another salient issue Flowers says was brought up during the meeting was apparent instances of union busting at the SSB. She says several union members believe management overlooked them due to their CWU membership.
The parties are expected to meet again soon.
