Christy Guzman’s life turned upside down on Sunday, August 31 when she allegedly fired a gun at Wilson Hernandez, killing him almost instantly. For the past five days, the 21-year-old has been in custody of police after she was charged with manslaughter by negligence. Her arraignment began on Thursday in Belmopan before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson. It wasn’t until today, however, that Guzman realized that she has been stripped of her freedom indefinitely. At her bail hearing today, the magistrate denied her bail and ordered that she be remanded at the Belize Central Prison. Her next appearance in court will be November 7. Guzman, who is legally represented by Attorney Hurl Hamilton, is said to have killed Hernandez as he and her aunt engaged in a domestic dispute. The incident unfolded just after six o’clock on the morning of Sunday, August 31 at the couple’s home in the Egoli Estate. As it relates to the girlfriend, Dalia Vellos, several have been clamoring for her to be jointly charged with Guzman, but Police have given no indication if this is being considered.
