Last week Friday the Chunox Polyclinic was officially opened to serve residents, not only from the village but also from other communities. According to the Government, the clinic will serve close to ten thousand people, mainly from the Corozal District. The Chunox Polyclinic cost close to one million dollars to construct and equip. Government funded the project through a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) with counter-part funding from Government which says that the clinic will improve primary health care access. This, the Government says, will reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality, diseases and increase early detection and prevention of diseases. The previous building in which primary health care services were being offered could not meet the demands of the residents. Some of the amenities of the new Polyclinic include a one-story reinforced concrete building with an approximate floor area of 5,500 square feet.
