Tonight, 45-year-old Travis Flowers, a Belize City Council Enforcement Coordinator, remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison. Flowers is awaiting a second chance at bail through the High Court. He is accused of the attempted murder of fellow council employee, 44-year-old Calvin Cumberbatch. This morning, Flowers appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Deborah Rogers, where he was informed that no case file was yet available, but disclosures from the DPP are expected by his next court date on July 11. Flowers asked the court to consider bail, but the Chief Magistrate explained that because his initial High Court bail application was denied, the Magistrate’s Court could not entertain a new request. He was advised to reapply to the High Court if he wishes to be considered again. The alleged incident occurred on March 8, when Cumberbatch was shot on West Street. Police say the two co-workers were involved in a confrontation during which Flowers reportedly drew his licensed Glock 9mm pistol and fired two shots, striking Cumberbatch in the shoulder and abdomen. According to Cumberbatch, the altercation began after Flowers nearly ran him over with a black SUV. Flowers was first arraigned on March 11 and has since been denied bail, most recently on March 31 by Justice Pilgrim.
