The official funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 18th. On behalf of the PUP, a speech was conveyed by Linsford Castillo, the Party’s Secretary General. Another heartfelt speech was delivered on behalf of the City by Mayor Bernard Wagner.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City: “The Belize City Council joins the family of Dr.Jane Usher in mourning her passing. Ms.Jane as she was affectionately known was a trailblazer, certainly she was one of our prominent and accomplished citizens. While the Belize City Council joins you in mourning we also join you in celebrating the extraordinary life of this remarkable woman who devoted her life to building an enduring legacy in our social, political and economic spheres. She served the people of this city and nation for many decades not only as a founder and manager but also as a visionary of one of it’s largest and greatest financial institutions, the Holy Redeemer Credit Union. She was an elected area representative for the Pickstock constituency and served as Deputy of Health and Housing. In 1984 she was the only PUP in Belize to win her seat. We are a better nation because of her charitable efforts on behalf of so many. We will miss her exemplary determination, effort, honesty and humility and we offer our utmost sympathies and condolences to her family, relatives, legion of friends and admirers. Her memory forever remains an inspiration to a grateful nation. A role model and mentor to many. On behalf of my councilors, staff of the Belize City Council and I we extend our deepest condolences to Ms.Jane’s family.”
