In three weeks, sport fanatics will tune in for Love FM’s four day coverage of this year’s Belikin La Ruta Maya River Challenge. The race is set to begin on Friday March 3 in Cayo and expected to culminate in Belize City. However, there is a problem that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. The final stretch of race near the Haulover bridge is blocked and almost impassable by canoe. This morning Councilor responsible for CEMO, Phillip Willoughby, revisited the site with officials from the Department of Forestry and Department of Environment to see how the problem can be resolved.
“We did a drone flyover with personnel from the Department of the Environment and Forestry. We had Mister Windsor who is the Deputy Chief. He came in to do the assessment with us. We are planning to do work in the Haulover starting Wednesday, that’s tentative and we go from there. It will take us I believe, about three days, there about being a collaborative effort with the residents if they want to get involved, other agencies who are out there doing cleaning at this moment and adding to that would be the council along with Forestry and DOE personnel. So we will have it covered I believe, we should have it, don’t hold me to that, to permit the La Ruta Maya race to pass through.”
Registration forms can be picked up at Love FM.
