Coast Guard Officer Charged with Arson
A member of the Belize Coast Guard has been arrested and charged with three counts of arson. According to investigators, Emmanuel McFadzean set ablaze a vessel and three outboard engines at the BCG’s headquarters on Saturday night. McFadzean was allegedly siphoning gas from one of the engines while the vessel was dry-docked for maintenance. The fire destroyed the Boston Whaler and its engines which were valued altogether at over half a million dollars. According to the BCG’s Vice Commandant, Captain Gregory Soberanis, McFadzean was seen aboard the vessel by on-duty officers before the incident and is expected to face internal charges.
