Coastal Erosion Threatens Belize Communities; Government Increases Mitigation Efforts

Several communities along Belize’s coastline remain at risk of losing their land to erosion. In recent years, there has been an uptick in efforts to prevent erosion in various coastal areas like Punta Gorda and Monkey River, to name a few. The issue is one that the government has echoed to the international community as it works to increase Belize’s overall resiliency to climate change. Minister of Blue Economy and Disaster Risk Management Andre Perez says the efforts to reclaim land and prevent erosion remains a priority for his government.
