Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, has drawn a line with Channel Seven, calling the attacks from the news director as being personal, and possibly externally motivated. In recent months, the media house has centered several of its newscasts on the Police Commissioner as it relates to gun licensing, familial relations with other officers as well as the exchange of US currency outside the banking system. The most recent had to with the casual exchange of US dollars which Seven News has condemned the commissioner for allowing the street exchange of US currency. Commissioner Williams had cited the transaction as nothing out of the ordinary, although it does go against the Central Bank’s Exchange Control Regulation. Today, the commissioner seems to have had enough of the attacks by Channel Seven.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police:“Please tell me if you or your director have never ever changed US currency with anybody either to go to the US or to do otherwise. What is the issue ? Why you people continue to push an agenda? I don’t want to get personal but I believe that media house for which you work have become extremely personal with me and I’m trying not to stoop to that level. So again, I’m not going to answer that question.”
Later in this newscast, we’ll have more from the Police Commissioner on murders and the recent investigations.
