Commissioner of Police Comments on Police Profiling Case

*Last week, Supreme Court Justice Westmin James ruled that the rights of Greg Nunez and Bryton Codd were violated when they were arrested and searched without any probable cause or intelligence. Police officers took their picture during the stop-and-search, which resulted in nothing criminal being found. The men filed a civil suit and according to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, damages were ordered in favor of the men. *

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “It is something that we are looking at with the AG’s ministry to see if there was any error on the trial judge’s part and if it is that we see that there is any loophole or error then we certainly will appeal but at this time I cannot say. We have not seen the written judgement either and I am waiting for the written judgement and once I receive the written judgement then my legal team will go through it and then we’ll see what if anything we can do in terms of appealing. Yes damages were awarded, I think Mr.Nunez got $5,000 plus $12,000 and Mr.Codd got $3,000 plus $12,000 and each received lawyer fee of $12,000.”
