Commissioner of Police Reflects on Successful Year, Elected to Regional Policing Associations

The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, says he’s going into the new year with a lot on his plate. This year, the police were able to keep the homicide rate at the lowest since 2006. And apart from the huge accomplishment, Williams was elected to serve as the President and Vice President of two regional policing associations. Yesterday, ComPol Williams spoke about how the recent achievements add to his policing career and how they build the capabilities of the department.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Being at the helm of two regional policing organisations within Central America and the Caribbean region I am well respected by my peers. I can tell you I am one of the or if not the most senior police chief in both the Central American and Caribbean region and so I do command a lot of respect from my peers and we do discuss issues affecting our respective countries and we give each other advice, we look at best practices and it does help. Going forward I just hope that we can continue to strengthen not just our respective countries but to strengthen the relationship that we have within both regions for us to be able to harmonise our efforts and if we do that then we are going to be a force to be reckoned with.”

Williams is President of the Commission of Chiefs of Police and Police Directors of Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Colombia and is the second Vice President of the Association of the Caribbean Commissioners of Police.
