As the Police Commissioner made his rounds, he was observed in the company of mostly PUP elected officials including the Punta Gorda Mayor, Carlos Obeah Galvez. One media house questioned if his movements are an indication of political bias. Here is how he responded.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I expect nothing different. Channel 7 always have a way of twisting things how they want it and I can’t take your opinion away from you. The Mayor of Punta Gorda Town is my very, very personal friend. I have known him before he became the Mayor of Punta Gorda Town. I have stayed at his house, he has stayed at my house before he was mayor. So we are like brothers. My minister is my boss. And again, I am entitled to be wherever he is. And again, if you want to speak of me being here in Bella Vista when the Prime Minister is here. The Prime Minister is the Prime Minister of this country. If it is that I need to go with the Prime Minister to make sure he’s safe, that is a part of my duties as well. So please don’t twist the narrative and say that it is a matter of campaigning. I don’t think that you see me approaching voters and tell them to vote this way or vote that way, or throwing out any political slogans or anything of that sort. While I may be in the presence people who are politicians it does not mean that I am campaigning. I have also stood with prominent UDP members as well. Why not say that I am campaigning for UDP too? I did went over to Mr. Mejia’s camp when I was leaving Forest Home and we took a picture together, right? So there is proof, right?”
The counting of votes will commence at eight o’clock tonight with Therese Martinez as the Returning Officer. Counting will take place at the Toledo Community College.
