Commissioner Williams Refutes Claims of Political Affiliation

The Commissioner of Police Chester Williams is refuting a narrative put to the public by a media house in Belize City. This week, the commissioner was accused of being politically affiliated after it was alleged Williams attended Andre Perez’s endorsement convention on Ambergris Caye. However, today, Williams clarified that he was on the island last Friday for a police award ceremony.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Myself and the minister had gone to San Pedro last Friday to do the award ceremony for police officers who were awarded long service and good conduct medal. We awarded officers who have served 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years. And after the ceremony was over I remained in San Pedro. On my way to my hotel I passed by where they were supposed to have the convention for the Honorable Perez and I just tapped in to make sure everything was okay and before the convention even started, I left. So for your news director to say that I was there to attend the convention he was totally off. I went for the award ceremony, and I was not there at that convention site when the convention did start. But even if I were there, I don’t see what the issue is. I’m a Belizean. I’m entitled to go anywhere. And if there’s a political convention, I have a right to go and listen to see what the candidate is going to bring to the table. So I don’t take offense to what Jules has said. I will tell him from now I will be in Orange Walk for the quad convention in Orange Walk this Saturday so if you want you can go and video me so I’m putting you on notice from now that I’ll be there you can you can decide I can wear whatever color 0I want to wear I can wear whatever I want to wear. Imagine the media now telling me what to wear.”

Reporter: No no someone had said that on Facebook that it’s wrong for you to have the same color but I know you have a thing about blending in too.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police:“Man I don’t know Marisol, I am free to wear whatever color I want and I can say my favorite color is sky blue. That’s my favorite color.”
