Community Rehab Dept Gets $95K in IT Equipment Boost

The Community Rehabilitation Department received over $95,000 worth of IT equipment today. The equipment is being donated under the PACE Justice Project, funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme. The donation includes 34 All-in-One Desktops and 10 scanner/printers. The equipment will help the staff of the Adult Probation Unit being developed by the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs. Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Human Development, Adele Catzim-Sanchez, says that the ministry is preparing to hire new staff to operationalize the Adult Probation Unit.

At the handing over ceremony, Michael Lund, Deputy Resident Representative for the UNDP applauded Belize for being a leader in the region with respect to alternative sentencing initiatives.  

The Ministry aims to have the Adult Probation Unit up and running within the next six months.
