With a recent spike in crime in Dangriga Town, Stann Creek District, the Police Commissioner, Chester Williams is holding a public meeting to get a sense of what is happening, particularly in the Lakeland area. Correspondent Harry Arzu has the story.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “From our encounter with the people of Lakeland they are satisfied with the work of the police, they do allude to the fact that they believe that the police can do a little more but they appreciate the fact that they are seeing police in the area frequently and that the police in the area are doing what they can do to curb the crime problem. We as a department do also acknowledge the fact that yes there is more that we can do to make the residents of Lakeland and the entire Dangriga Town feel a little bit more safer within their respective communities.
Harry Arzu, Stann Creek Correspondent, Love FM News: “Why is it only Lakeland you’re coming to today?
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Well over the past couple of weeks Lakeland Dangriga had been the area of concern, they have seen a number of shootings and people in the area complaining about stealing and robberies and these sort of things and so it is only right that we come and hear from the people of this area to see what we can do to address their issue. That is not to say though that whatever strategy we would put in place would only be geared at protecting Lakland but rather the entire Dangriga community as well as the Valley will be served by whatever strategy we intend to put in place after today.”
