As we reported last Friday, Ambergris Caye is one of the areas that have seen a tremendous decrease in crimes. Police Commissioner commended the Commanding Officer, Superintendent Christopher Noble and his team on their vigilance. He also clarified that the reports of relocating Noble are only rumors.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I have not done a psychiatric evaluation in quite some time but I am sure I’m not crazy. I don’t understand why I will break up something that is working. I can state here that as the Commissioner of Police I am extremely satisfied with the work being done in San Pedro by Superintendent Noble and his team. They have performed exceptionally well over the past six months so much so that the crime situation in San Pedro has decreased significantly and we are hoping that for 2020 we’ll see better results from them and Mr.Noble and his team have the full support of this high command of the Belize Police Department. So let me state that the rumor is not true and should be dispelled.”
Superintendent Noble was assigned to Ambergris Caye in July 2019. He had previously served as the Commanding Officer in Ladyville Village, Belize District where he had applied a similar crime control strategy. Despite his success in the Belize Rural area, he was removed in August 2014 by the then Commissioner of Police following a heated exchange, reportedly over promotions within the department. He was placed in the police garage where he managed the police vehicles. Weeks after Chester Williams was sworn in as the new Commissioner of Police, Noble was sent to the island as the Commanding Officer. Noble has been in the department for almost 29 years.
