ComPol Says Drivers Need to Be More Careful

The weekend was slated with a series of road traffic incidents, one of which claimed the life of Police Constable Teul. This is not the first time a police officer lost their life due to a vehicular crash and, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, says the police department has been actively advocating for more road safety measures to reduce instances of speeding. This includes setting up checkpoints at certain intervals to make sure drivers are in keeping with the legal speed limit. However, he says that ultimately, individual drivers need to be more responsible.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “There is a lot that we have been doing to try to reduce road traffic accidents but again it is something that persons need to take individual responsibility in how they use the road. You would know that we have increased the presence of the highway, doing more highway patrol, doing more road policing but the accidents persist because when people pass these checkpoints and they’re out of police view they continue to behave in the way that is dangerous to themselves and other road users. So individual drivers need to take more responsibility.”
