Commissioner of Police Chester Williams is warning all party-goers and event organizers to cease and desist from hosting any social gathering for the Easter weekend. ComPol Williams says that even now, persons continue to violate the COVID-19 regulations. Williams has noticed that there are some individuals and businesses that are currently advertising major social events for the Easter Weekend. So, before they are arrested, Williams sent a stern warning to these persons today.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “We continue to see that some people just are behaving as if COVID-19 has come and gone. We’re seeing that some restaurants are hosting guests inside, they’re having inside dining and for the most part these restaurants are fully closed up under air condition. We’re seeing that there are many advertisements going around where different places are advertising events, as a matter of fact we also have learnt that there are some restaurants that are renting out their places to host birthday parties, baby showers and other social gatherings- these things are things that should not be occurring. You would know that the quarantine regulations that is in force which is number nine of 2021 clearly forbids inside dining of restaurants. Yes it speaks to the fact that there are some restaurants that people can dine but those are open air restaurants not those restaurants that are fully closed up and make it even worse under air conditioning. We just want to encourage our Belizean people to refrain from hosting or participating in these events because doing so you will be acting in clear violation of the law and the police if we find you we’re going to arrest you.”
Williams says that the department’s personnel will be out in full force enforcing all COVID-19 regulations.
