Conorquie who was only sixteen years old, joins the last murder victim for 2019 who was also only sixteen years old. It is an unfortunate set of circumstances and one that begs the question as to why these young girls are being targeted. According to the Police Commissioner, it may just have to do with the company these young people choose to keep.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I want to say to young girls that at times they need to be careful of the person or persons that they associate themselves with in terms of you know there are some young girls who just love to associate themselves with persons that are referred to as ‘bad man’ and sometimes the effect of that coming back to them could be very detrimental in terms of violence being perpetrated against them as well. And so selecting your friends or your associates or who they date really and truly has a lot to do with it and again, parents of these young girls also need to be more involved in terms of knowing who their daughter is dating or who their daughter’s friends are and see how they can offer advice where necessary. Like I said the persons, especially the one over the weekend, the persons with whom she associated herself with had a lot to do with what actually occurred and so we are looking at it from that angle in trying to deal with the matter.”
In the case of 16-year-old Samantha Conorquie, who was killed over the weekend, the police have one suspect they are seeking. In the case of the teen who died at the end of 2019, Chanteusse Martinez was shot in November and passed away in December.
