Compol William Says COVID-19 Is Putting a Dent in the Police Department

The Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa had noted that “every three minutes on duty, a police officer encounters a member of the public”, which may be the reason that many officers are currently battling with COVID-19. And, despite more than half of the force being fully vaccinated and nearly ninety percent receiving their first dose, cases among officers continue to rise. Earlier today the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams spoke about how the department is dealing with the situation.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “As I’ve said before that we are well above 90% of our members being vaccinated and those who are not vaccinated are complying with the provision of the regulation that is to present every two weeks the negative PCR test and so we don’t have an issue. Our issue that we’re currently having is the fact that we do have a number of officers who are infected with the COVID-19 virus and we also have a number of officers who are in isolation so COVID-19 continues to put a dent on our human resources and we just have to find ways and means by which we can still function at optimal despite our human resources deficiency at this time.”
