It was almost ten years ago that Brad’s Gaming Company Limited received a contract to be the sole manager of lottery services. With news of the owner, Kim Jen Chee, seeking a renewal, Activist Geovannie Brackett wrote to the Prime Minister querying if there will be an automatic renewal of the contract. According to Brackett, the Prime Minister responded by phone assuring him that the matter has gone to Cabinet and there will be no automatic renewal of the contract. Weighing in on the subject was Senator Mark Lizarraga who represents the private sector.
Mark Lizarraga, Senator: “Look, we need to have a transparent and accountable way of how government continues to pick winners and losers. Was this thing put out to tender? What was the process employed? What were the prerequisites and why this individual. I think that’s the same message we keep hearing and we keep sending is that we cannot have a situation where government continues to pick winners and losers in a less than transparent manner and I’m not saying that happened in this case I’m saying that that is what Mr.Bracket has claimed, and again I have not looked at it fully but in principle we always stand for having a process clearly defined so that you could participate in it and I could participate in it and you could participate in it and not just have members of cabinet pick the winners and losers in whatever is going.”
