Construction of New San Pedro Hospital: Contract Signing Expected by End of Month Says PM Briceno

The contract to cement the construction works for a new San Pedro Hospital is expected to be signed by the end of the month.  Prime Minister John Briceno gave an update on the project, saying that groundbreaking for the facility is expected shortly.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “We are just at the point signing the contract with OECC that’s the Taiwanese company that works along with the Taiwanese Government. We are almost at the point to sign the contract and then they will be working I guess with a local contractor to be able to build the building and I would think that probably the next few weeks we will be doing the ground breaking ceremony.”

The hospital is projected to cost some 33 million dollars.  As a matter of fact, just last Thursday, the governments of Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the island’s first general hospital.  Prime Minister John Briceño signed on behalf of the government while Taiwanese Ambassador, His Excellency David Kuan-Chou Chien signed on behalf of his country.
